Back on the wagon

Well, life got a hold of me and I got really busy.  But I'm hopping back on the wagon with my size 11 feet and  resuming the goal of making art everyday.  Here is a cupcake from the ol' birthday a couple weeks ago that I finished yesterday.

Into abstraction

My students will soon be working on abstraction and they tend to make the concept much more difficult than it needs to be. Today I worked on two knife paintings to use as examples.

Don't quit your day job

It's days like today that I'm thankful that I have a job where I get to paint!  I painted this little bugger during my oil painting class.  This was also an experiment with a gessoed panel.  It needs some more sanding I think.

A kiss for you!

Inspired by Valentines Day(and my friend Kristen Dukat), I painted my first kiss for your viewing pleasure.  I will be attempting a few more over the next few days.  I took liberties on this one and wrote love on the slip.  I only had one kiss left in the candy dish, so I had to go get some more.

Epic Failure

I have not been doing well at creating daily art.  I have been caring for the family with a bout of pink eye (Jack), the flu (Cara), a minor procedure for my husband and the normal daily life stuff.

I also found out that I am going to get to go to California for the College Art Association's annual conference and I am going to do a show based on our adventures...so, I'm hoping that will reignite the spark.

Praying for a more productive daily painting week.  Here are some of the creative pursuits that have occupied my time other than my own art.
Half-Time Super Bowl Snacks (there are also chocolate chip cookies and coffee cake muffins in the kitchen)
Jack the Gallant, Knight of the Dining Room Table with his sword, shield and helmet.
Took advantage of the brief snow on the ground and made us a snowman.  Jack was disappointed and wanted to knock him down because he didn't come to life and dance around. I guess I didn't get enough magic dust on the ice cream cone.
Feelin' good but home with Pink Eye=Adventures of Detective Jack a roo
Painting the armor that he doesn't like because it tickles him.  sigh.

Something different-day 32

I started a painting the other day but didn't like the progress, but loved the color so I flattened it out with this idea in mind.

Then I finally has some time today to look for the perfect owl to draw. I enjoyed creating this, it is different from what I normally do.

Enjoy the eastern screech owl!

Day #31-A familiar flower

I am wanting to enter a show that entries are due in March.  This shows requirements are that the painting be 6" x 6" a common size for daily painters.  I would like to enter a piece in "my style" but the show is for paintings, therefore, not accepting of marker drawings.  This is an image I have done before with markers, but wanted to try out in watercolor to see how it looked.  I think it's okay.  The photograph isn't as brilliant as the painting itself.  I am going to work on another image in watercolor to see how it goes in a landscape.  I might try some acrylic too.

The boy was sick yesterday, so I didn't get posted.  I'm going to try to be more diligent on posting everyday, but sometimes the best thing I can do is get the art made!
